According to news from Independent, Gareth Southgate has praised Chelsea ace Mason Mount for his display for England vs San Marino. The Three Lions started their WC qualification campaign against the lowest-ranked team in the world and had no problems dispatching them 5-0.
Goals from James Ward-Prowse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin (2), Raheem Sterling and Ollie Watkins were enough to give them all three points. Mason Mount was named in the starting line-up and wasted no time in influencing proceedings. He was among the three Chelsea players who started the game and claimed assists.
After both Chilwell and James assisted the first two goals, it was Mason Mount who rolled the ball into Sterling’s path and the forward finished it. Gareth Southgate was very pleased with his performance.
“Mason Mount in the first half was excellent and set the tone. It was good to see Jesse Lingard looking like he’s enjoying his football again. There were a lot of good things. There were lots of good individual performances. ‘
The midfield players moved the ball around really well. Kalvin Phillips, I was really pleased for him. He’s used the ball well and his athleticism around the pitch was good.”
