According to Daily Mail, Max Allegri turned down the chance to manage Chelsea in 2019. His friend spoke about it, citing that Allegri actually turned down a lot of big clubs after leaving Juventus due to family reasons.
In 2019, Allegri left Juventus after another Serie A triumph but did not join any other club back then. Since then, he has not been active as a manager and is still out of work. The likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, PSG and Real Madrid were after him back in 2019 but Allegri refused to join any of them.
Allegri’s mentor, Giovani Galeone spoke about how it was a family issue due to which he passed up on the Chelsea and Arsenal jobs.
‘The reason is simple: due to some serious family problems with his mother, he had to say no to major clubs. Max has said no to Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Now he wants to go back and he wants a first-class club. He also rejected PSG.’
He added that Allegri was offered the Real Madrid job later but didn’t want to take it as it would look stupid after rejecting the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG. Chelsea were in the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Maurizio Sarri back in 2019.
However, they put club legend Frank Lampard in charge but he only lasted a season and a half. Subsequently, Thomas Tuchel was appointed and since then, Chelsea have enjoyed good form.
It surely would have been interesting to see how Allegri would have performed with Chelsea in the Premier League.
