As Chelsea play Atletico Madrid in the second leg, Marcos Llorente has fired a warning to the Blues (h/t Football.london). Almost a year ago, Llorente and Atletico stunned Liverpool as they knocked out the English side in extra time. The Spaniard believe his side can evoke those powers again and do the same to Chelsea.
Chelsea go into the second leg with an advantage of one goal. The precious away goal was scored by Olivier Giroud via a stunning overhead kick. Atleti would need at least one goal to force the game into a draw and extra time.
However, they have done it before and know how to do it. Last year, they scored thrice in extra time at Anfield to overcome a 2-1 aggregate after Wijnaldum and Firmino had put Liverpool up. Llorente, who scored two of those, spoke out ahead of Atleti’s visit to Chelsea.
“We have had big games when things get ugly. We have to remember what we did on the day of Liverpool, that we are capable of that. I am sure that we will go for it and get the win.”
He added that the team is buzzing and feel that they can do the job at hand.
“The team is excited, mentally, conscious of the game we come into. It’s crucial, we are working well and we will go out to have a good game. From inside we trust in ourselves. We have had big games this season. We have very clear ideas and we are very excited.”
Chelsea will definitely feel confident of keeping Atletico at bay but will be without key men like Mason Mount. Nonetheless, the Blues have one of the best defensive records under Tuchel and another clean sheet will be enough to progress to the next round.
