Thomas Tuchel praises Kai Havertz display against Everton
Thomas Tuchel came out in full praise for Kai Havertz as Chelsea stood firm to get a win against Everton (h/t Independent). Havertz was hailed by his manager for his contributions playing as a false nine in the game.
The German wonderkid struggled massively since moving to Chelsea in a record-breaking transfer. Previous manager Frank Lampard failed to get the best out of the former Bayer Leverkusen man as he struggled to get to grips with the game after battling COVID.
Even under Tuchel, Havertz took time to get going but eventually was eased into action. He was the one to open Chelsea’s scoring against Everton despite the goal being deemed as an own goal. Tuchel spoke out on how Havertz flourished in the ‘false nine’ role through the game.
“I’m very happy with his performance, no doubt about his quality his talent and also not about his character,” said Tuchel.
“He needs to adapt to the Premier League, he needs to be at a club where you play to win every game, where the highest standards are normal. That’s a normal process also for him to adapt to this mentality.”
Tuchel praised his compatriot for taking on responsibility and then delivering on it.
“He showed up between the lines and used his potential to accelerate our game and to increase the touches in the box – and to be responsible for assists and through-balls, and also to take the responsibility to finish himself. And from here on we go.”

It bodes well for Chelsea that their big-money signing has started to show some flashes of his brilliance. They are already on a good run and the added form of Havertz will only add to Tuchel’s headache but in a good way.
