“He’s the manager” – Rising Chelsea star has no complaints regarding reduced game time

Reece James opens up on lack of playing time under Thomas Tuchel

According to Metro, Reece James has cleared the air regarding his situation at Chelsea after the appointment of Thomas Tuchel. A regular starter under Frank Lampard, James has had to be content with Tuchel’s rotation policy.

James was one of those youngsters who broke out under Lampard and enjoyed a long run at right-back. However, Tuchel’s appointment meant that there was a change in formation.

A back three was introduced as Cesar Azpiliceta took up the right-sided centre-back role. Callum Hudson-Odoi was asked to play as a wing-back, thereby reducing James’ game time.

However, the Englishman had no complaints regarding the situation given the results Tuchel has produced. The Blues are yet to lose in 10 games, winning 7 of them. He also gave the example of the two Liverpool games, comparing both and highlighting the difference.

‘We were all on it against Liverpool and that showed. The game last season was tough and we lost 5-3 but this season shows you how far we’ve progressed. He (Tuchel) is very funny and very passionate.

He wants to win and that shows when he is on the sidelines, kicking and heading every ball. When you’re in a top team, you can’t always play. You have to keep working hard. He’s the manager, I have to respect his decisions.’
