Joleon Lescott believes Chelsea could lose Tammy Abraham
According to Football.london, former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott believes Chelsea could regret losing out on Tammy Abraham. He felt that the situation between both player and club are similar to what happened with Kevin De Bruyne, Mo Salah and Romelu Lukaku a few years ago.
With a transfer ban last season, Abraham made full use of the opportunities handed to him and went on to score 15 goals. However, with two years still to go in his current deal, Abraham finds himself in a spot.
Thomas Tuchel has largely preferred going with Olivier Giroud as the starting striker while opportunities have also been handed to Timo Werner to rediscover his form. Then there remains Chelsea’s pursuit of Erling Haaland.
The Blues are looking to bring in the Norwegian star in the summer, which pushes Tammy further down the pecking order. Lescott feels that letting go of the striker can come back to bite the club given how the likes of Lukaku, Salah and De Bruyne performed after leaving the club.
“Do I see him being there long term? I don’t, to be honest, I see him having to go away, and we’ve seen that in the past. I’m sure Chelsea would love to have [Romelu] Lukaku right now, [Kevin de Bruyne], [Mohamed] Salah.
It’d be slightly naive of Chelsea to think ‘We don’t need Tammy Abraham’. He’s proven that he can score goals. I’d like to see him stick around, but I don’t see it happen.”
