Kevin Campbell gives his take on the striker situation at Chelsea
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has spoken about the situation of the forwards at Chelsea (h/t Football.london). He was of the opinion that if Erling Haaland was to be signed, Olivier Giroud would be facing an exit.
Chelsea are among the plethora of clubs who are interested in signing the Borussia Dortmund striker and despite Haaland not considering Chelsea as a top club that he would join, links still remain open between player and club.
However, Chelsea already have a few players already competing for the position. Tammy Abraham has seemingly lost his place in the line-up for some inexplicable reason while Giroud is being preferred. Problem is, Giroud is 34 now and approaching the twilight years of his career.
Campbell believes that if Haaland was signed, he would start and Abraham would be the second choice. That would leave Giroud facing an exit from the club.
“Well if you’re going to get Haaland, Haaland’s going to play no matter what. Then you’re looking at Giroud, who we haven’t seen today [against Everton], you’re looking at Tammy Abraham who’s a good young player, who I think is one Chelsea can keep. But you bring Haaland in, all of a sudden the level goes up, so you could be looking at those two players.
