“That’s what top teams do”: Some fans react as Chelsea book hard-earned place in FA Cup semi-final

Chelsea fans were ecstatic after making the semi-final of the FA Cup against Sheffield United

Chelsea faced Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday. Thomas Tuchel named a Chelsea side with 9 changes from the team that beat Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. (h/t football.london)

And a much-changed side that featured Mason Mount as the captain managed to get the job done against the Blades. But it wasn’t without its scares.

The Blues dominated possession, keeping 62.6% of the ball, but only had one goal to show for it as they entered added time at the end of the second half.

Ben Chilwell crossed low after an overhit Mason Mount corner. And Sheffield United’s Oliver Norwood was at the end of it at the far post to score an unfortunate own goal in the 24th minute.

Underwhelming performance, massive result

That 1-0 scoreline was changed only in the 94th minute when Hakim Ziyech sealed a semi-final berth for the Blues with their second goal of the game. It also extended Chelsea’s unbeaten streak to 14 under Thomas Tuchel.

But just before that, Rhian Brewster struck the side-netting as Sheffield tried to find an equalizer. That never came, and Chelsea deservedly booked their place in the last 4 of the oldest club competition in the world.

It was not the best Chelsea performance, but it did not matter at the end of the day. And the fans were ecstatic with the result as the Blues kept their domestic silverware hopes alive this season.

The attack did their job, and the defence was solid to keep a clean sheet. This featured an under-fire Kepa Arrizabalaga, who impressed with his third clean sheet in a row. (h/t transfermarkt)

Here are some of the best reactions from Chelsea fans from the important 2-0 win against the Premier League’s basement boys.
