Chelsea could face difficulty in Erling Haaland pursuit
According to transfer news from Football.london, Chelsea could face some difficulty in signing Erling Haaland. Apparently, Thomas Tuchel’s relationship with Borussia Dortmund could hamper the Blues’ chances of securing one of the most coveted forwards in Europe right now.
The Norwegian hitman has taken Europe by storm with his goal-scoring exploits for RedBull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund. In 49 outings for Dortmund, he has scored 49 goals. Chelsea have held an interest in the player for a while now and could look to move for him this summer.
There is a £65m release clause in his contract, which activates only in 2022. Nonetheless, the German club could cash in on the 20-year-old this summer by demanding a figure more than the release clause, given the interest generated.
However, the bigger problem for Chelsea will be Thomas Tuchel. The German manager was in charge of Dortmund for two years and along the way, his methods managed to irk those running the club. Club historian Jan-Henrick Gruszecki spoke about Tuchel’s impression at Dortmund.
“I went to see him with the book and the DVD to say, ‘welcome to Dortmund’. He said, ‘no, I’m not interested in that kind of thing, these emotions. I’m just responsible for what happens on the pitch. The Yellow Wall and all that doesn’t interest me. I am a soccer coach’.
“I said to myself, ‘wow, oh my god’ and I then said, ‘Yes but there is this incredible audience, this chance to have the support of a twelfth man’. He said to me, ‘no, I don’t want to play with twelve. Football is 11 against 11’. It started like that between us…”
Tuchel pretty much clashed with everyone at Dortmund including the likes of chief scout Sven Mislintat, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke and sporting director Michael Zorc. There were concerns over the transfer activity and that pretty much went on until 2017 when he was let go.

Chelsea could feel the bad effects of Tuchel now as they chase Haaland. Competition from other clubs has been there but if the club decides that they don’t want to deal with Tuchel due to the past issues, it could seriously be a hammer blow for Chelsea.
