Chelsea concerned with Timo Werner behind the scenes

In a rather surprising bit of news from Football Insider (h/t Express), Chelsea are said to be unhappy about the form of Timo Werner. Despite only joining the club this season, he has failed to match his previously high standards this season.

Werner was a big-money signing from Leipzig last summer and was expected to continue his goal-scoring exploits in England. However, he again failed to score on Saturday against Leeds and has just one goal to show in the last 19 league games.

He will feel a bit hard done by the Liverpool game as his splendid effort was ruled out offside by the finest of margins. Werner got more opportunities to get on the scoresheet during that game as well as against Everton, but failed to do so.

It has been claimed that people in the club are unhappy with how he has performed so far. There is a general sense of disappointment in the levels he has operated this season.

With Werner still not looking well settled at the club and the need for a prolific goalscorer still evident, a swap deal has been proposed between Werner and Erling Haaland.

Chelsea are hoping that some amount of cash plus Werner moving the other way can be enough to coax Dortmund into letting go of their prized asset. The club could be set for another summer of spending as Roman Abramovich back Thomas Tuchel in the transfer market.
