A report by Daily Mail mentions that Chelsea lead the calls for pushing the start of the summer transfer window by a week this year.
It is scheduled to start on 9th July, but the proposition wants it to begin on 16th July. This is to be supplemented by the 31st August deadline being postponed by an additional week.
The proposal was said to be well received in the virtual conference. But nevertheless, the report states that it would still require the seal of approval from the FA.
This could also mean that an additional week would be reserved for domestic transfers between Premier League and EFL clubs. This happened last year in October as well.
The top-flight and lower-division teams were allowed to loan, buy, and sell players to each other in the closing stages of the transfer window. The meeting also raised the issue about the re-opening of stadiums.
Premier League announced plans of spacing out the last two gameweeks of the season in order to make sure that every club gets to play a home game between the partial re-opening of the stadiums and the end of the season.
The stadiums are scheduled to open up on 17th May with not more 10,000 fans allowed. Presently, this means that half the clubs would miss the opportunity to play in front of their own fans before the season’s end.
However, the proposal would reschedule it in a way that all the teams have a home game to play to protect the competition’s integrity. (h/t Daily Mail)
This could impact Chelsea’s season if the race for top-4 goes on until the last few gameweeks, in which the Blues would surely prefer to have the backing of their own fans.
