According to Eurosport (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea are keeping an eye on Gianluigi Donnarumma and his contract situation at AC Milan. The Italian goalkeeper is in the final months of his current deal which is set to expire this season.
It could be the case that he eventually signs a new contract but the fact that it has dragged on for this long with just a few months left, means that Chelsea are on the edge and waiting to snap him up. It has been said that contract talks between the player and club have stalled in recent weeks and Chelsea are contemplating a move.
Chelsea could look to sign the keeper despite needing players in other positions such as centre-back and striker. Another big question would be the future of Kepa Arrizabalaga if Donnarumma arrives. Chelsea have thrown big money on keepers in the last few seasons with Kepa and Edouard Mendy arriving at the Bridge.
While Mendy is the first-choice, for now, a move for Donnarumma would make him the first choice for the next 8-10 years. His arrival would push Kepa further down the pecking order and an exit could be on the cards for the Spaniard.
The 22-year-old and his agent are pushing for a £9.1m-per-year wage packet. Add to that, Mino Raiola is keen on adding a £35m release clause in the contract as well as shorten the length of the deal from 5 to 2 years.
Chelsea would have no issues splurging that wage packet for one of the best young keepers in Europe in case he becomes available.
