According to ESPN, Chelsea have been tipped as huge admirers of AS Monaco starlet Aurelien Tchouameni. Thomas Tuchel could just make him his first signing at the club in case he wants to add to his midfield options for next season.
A youth product of Girondins Bordeaux, Tchouameni started out at SJ D’Artigues in 2006 and spent five years there. After that, he moved to Bordeaux’s academy and continued on his development. In 2017, he was promoted to the Bordeaux B side but due to his rapid progress, they pushed him up to the senior side within a season.
Over the next one and half seasons, he made 37 appearances for the side. He left for AS Monaco in January last year and has established himself as a vital player in the side since then, making 31 appearances to date.
Given Chelsea spent a staggering amount in the summer window, bringing in a bevy of players, it really doesn’t look like Tuchel may need many signings. The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell all arrived for big money. That has left new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel with an oversized squad at this point.
Nonetheless, Chelsea have a tendency to find the best possible young talents across the world and sign them. Aurelien Tchouameni falls under the same category. The French midfielder came to the fore this season with his exploits in defensive midfield for Monaco. Despite his young age, he has shown immense ability with his contributions in the heart of midfield.
With Chelsea already having a stacked midfield unit with players like N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, Billy Gilmour, Tchouameni, at 21, could pretty much be a signing for the future.
Since the club would be looking to bring him in the summer, it would give the player more time to develop his skills and get regular game time. That would give Tuchel a well-rounded and experienced player to work with, in case he decides to pursue him.
