According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel went on to say that Mateo Kovacic is one of his favourite players. The 26-year-old Croatian midfielder impressed in Chelsea’s latest win over Newcastle and has become a permanent fixture under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
He has started all the league games since Tuchel has taken over from Frank Lampard. Kovacic drew praise from Tuchel after his Newcastle heroics.
“I love him. I could wake the guy at 3 at night and he will be at Cobham at 3.15 ready to give everything. I need to calm the guy down in training, that he’s not doing too much. It’s a pleasure to have him.”
The midfielder seemed to struggle for game time under Frank Lampard but has found a new lease of life under the German manager. Tuchel has paired up Kovacic up with Jorginho in central midfield as the former has looked very solid on his inclusion to the side.
Tuchel’s new system of a back three has borne fruit with 5 wins and 1 draw from his 6 games in charge. An overall defensive solidity has been visible with just one goal being conceded so far.
The Blues went on to break into the top four of the league while also progressing into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. A crucial period of the season awaits for Tuchel and Chelsea as they face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League followed by an encounter with Manchester United.
