Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel reveals PSG considered a transfer for starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel spoke in an interview (h/t Daily Star) before the game against Newcastle United and revealed that his former club, PSG, had Callum Hudson-Odoi on their radar a couple of years ago.
Hudson-Odoi burst onto the scene as a 17-year-old in the 2018/19 season where he made 24 senior appearances. The next season, he featured in 33 games for the Blues, scoring 3 and assisted 6 goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He was, and continues to be, one of the hottest young prospects in the league. And Chelsea’s current manager revealed that one of his former clubs had the youngster on their radar a few years back.
“In my days at Paris, like two years ago, his name popped up in our office. He was on our radar. We could see the potential.”
Hands off Hudson-Odoi
The German was, of course, in charge of Paris Saint-Germain from the summer of 2018 to December 2020. Tuchel now challenges Hudson-Odoi to maintain his form and continue impressing at Chelsea.
“He’s very positive, always with a smile on his face. He’s had a very good start. Now the challenge is to show this every minute, every day.”
The 20-year-old winger has featured in all 5 games under Tuchel so far. This includes 4 appearances in the Premier League, and the full 90 minutes against Barnsley in the FA Cup last week.
He already has 4 goals and 5 assists this season and would be hoping to feature more and more as the season goes on. His appearances under Frank Lampard were spotty due to fitness issues.
