According to Evening Standard, Thomas Tuchel remained coy on Christian Pulisic and his long-term future at Chelsea. The new manager has urged the American ace to work through his fitness and injury issues.
So far, Pulisic has started a grand total of zero league games for Tuchel and has been limited to 3 substitute appearances in the league. He did get a good few minutes under his belt in the FA Cup win over Barnsley but did not feature in the Newcastle game.
Pulisic’s repeated fitness issues have been a huge issue for managers, with Frank Lampard also struggling to find a way to keep him fit. There have also been reports of Chelsea possibly agreeing to a sale of either Pulisic or Hakim Ziyech when the season ends.
Tuchel has reiterated his desire for Pulisic to remain at the club but clarified that no decisions regarding his future have been taken.
“But it’s not only my point of view, we have to see. But for me, clearly yes. Chelsea bought Christian for a reason – for his quality, for his potential and it’s our job to bring out the best in him.
“He proved in many weeks that he has the level to be a Chelsea regular player, to have a big impact at this club and it’s a challenge now to maintain the level and to keep improving.”
Speaking on Pulisic’s latest calf injury, Tuchel said that there’s not much reason to worry and that the medical team is dealing with it. His history with injuries meant that it was risk management and wanted the 22-year-old to stay positive.
There were also some words on Ziyech who has struggled to get game time as well as on the pitch in his limited appearances. Tuchel took the blame for not being able to utilize Ziyech more but assured that he will be needed with so many fixtures yet to play.
