Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel responds to rumours linking him with Newcastle United job
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Shields Gazette), Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that it was the first time he was hearing of him being linked with a move to Newcastle United as their manager.
Tuchel was one of the names tipped to take over Newcastle United when Alan Pardew got sacked during the 2014-15 season. He was without a club at that time after leaving Mainz in the summer of 2014.
The Magpies appointed John Carver as their caretaker manager until the end of the season. Steve McLaren then took the helm at the start of the 2015/16 season but was sacked 8 months later.
However, the German manager says he has no recollection of being linked with the Newcastle job. In fact, he stated that he was never in contact with any official from St. James’ Park.
“I just heard it, and it feels like I missed an opportunity here, because I never talked to any officials from Newcastle.”
No truth to Newcastle links
He joked that he would have to contact his lawyer regarding any missed calls regarding the job at that time. Diplomatically, he admitted that it was probably a ‘missed opportunity’.
“Maybe I have to ask my lawyer if he missed some calls, or if he was on holiday or whatever.”
The German, of course, went on to become the manager of Borussia Dortmund after Jurgen Klopp called it quits at Signal Iduna Park in 2015.
From thereon, he became the manager of Paris Saint-Germain. Despite winning 6 trophies and taking the club to their first ever UEFA Champions League final, he was sacked in December last year.

He was then rumoured to be the man to replace Frank Lampard once he got the sack. That is exactly what happened a month later.
