Thiago Silva slams former club PSG over lack of respect
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has criticised his former club Paris Saint-Germain for failing to give him a proper goodbye following the end of his eight-year spell at the French capital.
Silva, who joined PSG from AC Milan back in 2012, served as the designated club captain for the Ligue 1 heavyweights for several years. The centre-back made over 300 appearances for Les Parisiens, guiding the club to a host of silverware, including seven domestic titles.
The 36-year-old was instrumental as PSG went all the way to the Champions League final last season. Silva’s appearance against Bayern in the final was the last of his illustrious career at the Parc des Princes.
Silva has revealed that PSG made a late approach to extend his stay at the end of last season, which he politely turned down. However, that wasn’t the only thing that frustrated him. The Brazilian feels that the club should have given him a good farewell as a recognition of his services over the years.
Speaking to Four Four Two, the veteran said:
“They didn’t offer me anything. Not even a ‘Thiago, do you accept a euro to stay with us?’ Nothing at all. It was very annoying. But there is worse.
“During the pandemic, they had three months to plan my farewell, but nothing was done. I didn’t stay a season or a few months, it’s an eight-year story of a captain who lifted a lot of trophies at the club. I deserved more respect than that. And the same thing happened to Cavani.”
Nevertheless, Silva has proven himself to be a fantastic addition to Chelsea’s squad since coming through the door at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer this past summer.

The 36-year-old has established himself as one of the mainstays of the Blues’ backline, offering some much-needed stability with his experience and quality.
It was recently reported that Silva is keen to extend his stay at Chelsea for another season, having initially put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
