Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel came under fire for his treatment of youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi in last week’s 1-1 draw against Southampton.
The 20-year-old came on for striker Tammy Abraham in the second half but faced the ignominy of being taken off himself after just 31 minutes. Tuchel also went on to criticize his performances in his post-match presser.
The German was questioned for his approach that some spectators saw as being akin to humiliating the young Chelsea star. However, according to the Metro, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks otherwise.
“Managers live by results and if you feel something has to change, you change it.”
Solskjaer believes managers have to make tough decisions and do what they think is for the team’s best. While Chelsea were unable to win the game, Tuchel’s decision will have made it clear that nothing but the best will do.
“You have got to make some tough decisions because at the end of the day it’s down to results which are down to the manager.”
Tuchel, to his credit, held a meeting with his players to clear up the issue. The Chelsea squad including Hudson-Odoi are said to have been satisfied by it.
The 20-year-old started Chelsea’s next game against Atletico Madrid and put in a fine performance. Tuchel’s approach appears to have worked and the youngster, to his credit, has reacted well to the criticism.
Top-level football is not all sunshine and rainbows and results speak for themselves. Different managers have different ways of getting their point across and Tuchel has done just that.
His decision was made on the pitch and Hudson-Odoi responded to the challenge laid out in kind. If Tuchel was indeed looking to send a message, it is clear to say that it has been received.
With us set to face United later tonight, Hudson-Odoi could very well make the difference on the field. If that were to happen, Solskjaer’s post-match presser would make for some interesting viewing.
