Mason Mount teases Kai Havertz over funny incident in 2015
Mason Mount has poked fun at Kai Havertz for winning the battle against his Chelsea teammate when the duo faced each other in an international friendly between England and Germany U-17s back in 2015.
Both Mount and Havertz have shown their potential from a very young age and represented their respective nations across various age-groups. They are now pretty much regular starters for England and Germany at the senior level.
However, six years before they became teammates at Stamford Bridge, Mount faced Havertz while playing for England U-17s. It so happened that Mount won the battle against the German prodigy back then and he hasn’t missed an opportunity to remind his midfield partner about it.
Mount preserves fond memories of his duel against Havertz as it was his first game on TV. Speaking to England’s Official Youtube channel, the homegrown starlet said:
“This was [for England U16s] I think (it was actually U17s), [our] first game on TV.
“Actually, Kai Havertz, my teammate at the moment, is actually in the video — not many people know this. He is the one that actually grabbed my face, he’s number 18.
“I’ve spoken to him about it at training and we had a good laugh about it — and he actually remembered it as well. That was funny. Now he’s going to get exposed, everyone is going to know [laugh].”
Both midfielders have had contrasting fortunes at Chelsea this season. While Mount has continued to flourish as one of the mainstays after an impressive breakthrough last term, Havertz has failed to live up to the expectations following his record-breaking £75.8million move from Bayer Leverkusen this past summer.
The German international has managed to find the net only once in 18 league appearances for the Blues so far this season, having scored 12 times in the Bundesliga in 2019-20.
