Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez seemingly delivered a bit of a pinch on Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger as the pair tussled for the ball in the UEFA Champions League clash on Thursday. (via BT Sport h/t Daily Mail)
With the score at 1-0 in favor of Chelsea, the Uruguayan went for the ball as Rudiger tried to defend it. The ball rolled away while Suarez sneakily managed to get a hold of Rudiger’s thigh and pinched it.
Suarez obviously was seeing the funny side to it started giggling. The Chelsea centre-back, though, was not the least bit amused as he confronted the striker and went on to deliver some harsh words while going chest-to-chest against him.
Referee Felix Brych separated the two quickly before things could escalate. Then Edouard Mendy came in to push away Rudiger so as to not get him in any trouble. Both Suarez and Rudiger were then called by the referee to have a talk.
It really doesn’t seem like you can keep Suarez out from these sort of incidents where he oversteps in trying to get physical with defenders. The former Barcelona man has a history of biting offenses as well as others while at Ajax, Liverpool and the Uruguay national team.
While it all seems to be in jest and light foolery, what UEFA makes of this remains to be seen. However, given the nature of the incident, it really looks unlikely that he will be handed any severe punishment.
