According to the Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that two key first-team stars – Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic could be ruled out from facing Southampton at the weekend.
The Blues have gotten off to a good start under Tuchel and are now back in the top four. With our Champions League aspirations back in our own hands, we cannot let this opportunity slip.
Tuchel will, however, have to make do this weekend sans two of the Blues’ most impactful players. Silva has missed the last three games for the club but returned to training recently.
His being pictured at Cobham raised hopes that he would be fit to feature against Southampton. However, it would appear that the game has come too soon.
“Thiago will be out for the game, he’s not ready for the game.”
While Tuchel has completely ruled out Silva from appearing, there is still some doubt regarding Pulisic. The young American has been plagued by injuries since joining and could be absent once again tomorrow.
“And we have some issues with the calf of Christian Pulisic. It’s nothing big, just feels tight and a bit sore is how I understood it yesterday so there’s a big question mark for Christian.”
It is not, however, all bad news as Kai Havertz is now back in contention to make his return.
Havertz was Chelsea’s marquee signing of the summer. But he has failed to meet the necessary expectations and has largely struggled. Now back fit, a return to form will give Tuchel more options.
Southampton is a tricky side who can be formidable on their day. The Blues will have to be at their best to ensure there are no unpleasant surprises.
