Chelsea might just have to break their transfer record to sign Erling Haaland in the summer. The Blues have identified him as their top transfer target for next season and are willing to spend a significant amount on the Borussia Dortmund starlet. (h/t Football.london)
The Borussia Dortmund striker has been prolific since his move to Dortmund and has attracted plenty of attention from clubs. Haaland has continued from where he left off last season, scoring an astonishing 27 goals in 25 games. That has led to speculation around his future with a host of elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City after the Norwegian.
There is a £68m release clause in his contract which activates only in 2022. Nonetheless, the German club could cash in on him this summer itself while demanding a figure more than the release clause, given the interest generated.
There is another question of Haaland’s much more accurate transfer value provided by KPMG. Several factors are used to determine a player’s value by them such as their age, position, performance, contract length, etc.
They have valued Erling Haaland at a staggering £94.6m in the current market. That would mean Chelsea having to break their previous record of £75.8m they shelled out for Kai Havertz. It does look like Chelsea would go the distance for Haaland given the impact he could bring to their side.
