In a rather shocking bit of news from Manchester Evening News, Chelsea have entered the race to sign Dean Henderson from Manchester United. Rivals Tottenham are also said to be in the hunt to sign the youngster.
The Manchester United shot-stopper has had to play second-fiddle to David de Gea this season. Henderson returned to Old Trafford after two highly successful seasons at Sheffield United.
However, Henderson has only been given a handful of league games and cup fixtures this season to show his talent.
It has been reported that the English keeper has grown frustrated at the limited opportunities he has received this season. Henderson is in contention to be England’s number one at the European Championships in the summer but lack of regular game time could scupper those chances.
With de Gea still likely to man the posts at United post this season, interest has grown in Henderson. Chelsea, Spurs and West Ham have all shown an interest in bringing him to London.
It’s rather surprising of Chelsea to show interest in a goalkeeper given they already have two at their disposal. Edouard Mendy has been the first-choice after arriving this season.
On the other hand, Kepa Arrizabalaga has been given a lease of life under Tuchel with the Spaniard enjoying somewhat of a comeback to the squad. While Henderson wouldn’t be a bad buy per se, but it really doesn’t look like he is a player they need.
