Good news for Chelsea as young star’s injury is not as bad as initially feared

Chelsea handed boost as Tammy Abraham injury not as bad as feared

According to The Telegraph (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have been handed a boost with regard to the injury situation of star striker Tammy Abraham.

The England international picked up an ankle injury in the 2-0 win against Newcastle United earlier this week, after being on the end of a reckless challenge from the Magpies skipper Jamaal Lascelles.

Abraham had to be withdrawn just twenty minutes into the game, but goals from Olivier Giroud and Timo Werner ensured that the Blues continued their unbeaten start under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

The German tactician expressed serious concerns over the condition of Abraham post the game though, causing fears that he could be set for a lengthy spell out on the sidelines.

“There’s no update yet on Tammy, but we needed to take him off after a hard tackle. So, we are worried, but there’s no news of him.”

However, there is some good news for fans as the aforementioned report claims that Abraham’s injury is not as bad as initially feared. The Chelsea academy graduate hasn’t suffered any serious damage to his ankle and shouldn’t face a lengthy spell out on the sidelines.

Despite having had to battle it out with Werner and Giroud for a starting berth, Abraham is Chelsea’s leading goalscorer this term with 12 goals in 29 games in all competitions. He also has six assists to go along with. (h/t Transfermarkt)

More Chelsea News:

Abraham scored the only goal of the game in the win against Barnsley in the FA Cup last week and looked in good touch before picking up the injury. So, the news that the injury isn’t as serious as feared initially, is a positive update for the club and the fans.
