Brighton keen on Chelsea youngster Nathan Baxter
According to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter, Chelsea goalkeeper Nathan Baxter has emerged as a transfer target for Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 22-year-old has been at the club since joining Chelsea from Cray Wanderers in 2006. While he is yet to make his Chelsea debut, he has had six different spells out on loan.
Baxter is currently on loan at League One side Accrington Stanley. He has been in fine form for the Lancashire-based side and has kept five clean sheets in nine appearances. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Both Brighton and Chelsea appear to be fine with the goalkeeper’s current situation. He is expected to see out the current campaign on loan at Accrington. (h/t Football.london)
The Seagulls are willing to wait until the summer to complete a deal for the keeper. At 6’3″, Baxter is an imposing figure with good command of his area.
With Kepa Arrizabalaga struggling and Edouard Mendy too showing cracks at times, it remains to be seen of Baxter will be handed an opportunity come the summer.
At 22, he is still young for a keeper but will do well to earn more game time at this stage of his career. Whether that will be at Chelsea remains to be seen.
