Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger reveals contact with transfer target David Alaba
As quoted by German journalist Christian Falk (h/t Football.london), Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has admitted to having made contact with David Alaba, who is a transfer target for the Blues.
The 28-year-old Alaba is out of contract with German and European champions Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The versatile defender confirmed earlier this week that he will not be signing an extension and will be leaving on a free transfer.
“I have personally made the decision to try something new after this season and to leave the club. It wasn’t an easy decision, I’ve been here for 13 years and the club is very important to me. I am looking for a new challenge.”
Alaba’s situation has led to interest from a host of clubs across Europe with Chelsea also among his suitors. The Blues could be in for a new centre-back in the summer as Thiago Silva is not getting any younger and Fikayo Tomori, who is currently out on loan, faces an uncertain future at the club.
RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano had been a target, but he has opted to sign for Bayern Munich. And, Alaba has now emerged as a potential candidate for the club to strengthen the defence. And, Chelsea star Rudiger has now revealed that he has had contact with the Austrian.
“If Chelsea were to decide on of the three players as a transfer target, I would be available to answer any questions. I know Jerome (Boateng) and Niklas (Sule) very well and I’ve already had contact with David Alaba.”

However, it has been reported that Alaba prefers a move to La Liga champions Real Madrid and already has a verbal agreement with them over a summer move.
It will be interesting to see if agent Rudiger is able to convince Alaba to change his mind and move to the Bridge instead.
