Reputed journalist reveals Chelsea have a two-man shortlist to replace Lampard

Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann the frontrunners for the Chelsea hotseat

Speaking on The Transfer Show (h/t The Express), Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has revealed that Chelsea have cut down the list of Frank Lampard replacement shortlist to just two names.

With the Blues having won just two of the last eight Premier League games, Lampard’s position has come under fire. While he still remains in charge, the club has been putting together a list of potential replacements.

The original shortlist consisted of Thomas Tuchel, Max Allegri, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Ralph Hasenhuttl and Brendan Rodgers.

It would now appear that if a change is to be made, it will be between Tuchel and Nagelsmann. It can be argued that the former is easier to attain after being released by PSG in December.

“Keith James, one of our chief news editors is telling us this evening that he is being told that if Chelsea were to dismiss Frank Lampard, they would then look to appoint either Thomas Tuchel or Julian Nagelsmann.”

While Tuchel can be hired immediately, any attempt to lure Nagelsmann will have to wait until the summer. The 33-year-old is currently in charge of Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig.

“RB Leipzig have made it clear to Chelsea they will not let Nagelsmann go midway through the season.”

The Blues will need to wait until the sumnem if they want Nagelsmann

Going down swinging

Solhekol also went on to claim that Lampard will not vacate the Chelsea hot seat without a fight. The Blues boss admitted recently that his side isn’t ready to compete just yet.

However, he remains defiant that he can cope with the pressures put on him. With the clock ticking, we should be able to gauge if his words will translate into actions.
