A report by The Telegraph (subscription required), as cited by Metro, mentions that Massimiliano Allegri and Thomas Tuchel have made a play to replace Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
Chelsea are in dire form recently, especially after their defeat against Manchester City on Sunday. The club have won just one of their last 7 matches in all competitions.
The 3-1 loss to the Cityzens was preceded by a draw against Aston Villa and a humiliating loss against rivals Arsenal. This has placed manager Frank Lampard under pressure.
While his job is under no immediate threat, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich isn’t known for his patience. However, the Russian might not receive a finish outside the top 4 too well.
The club spent £220million on several top players. Out of the many summer signings, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva have looked really dependable.
However, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, and Hakim Ziyech are struggling to get into their stride. Amidst all this, Abramovich is considering sacking Lampard if poor results continue for too long. (h/t Metro)
Thomas Tuchel was recently sacked by Paris Saint-Germain. On top of this, Allegri has expressed his desire to coach in the Premier League.
And the report says that the duo want to ‘place themselves at the front of the queue’ in case there is an opening at the Bridge. Truth be told, Chelsea are struggling at the moment.
Apart from being 9th in the table, the performances are lacklustre and uninspired. However, it seems too early to chase Lampard with pitchforks.
The past few weeks have been intense, with very little breaks and a congested fixture list. A run of few poor games for the Blues is cushioned by the fact that most top teams are struggling to put a streak together.
