Tammy Abraham reveals the reason behind new signings having a hard time at Chelsea
Speaking to the official Chelsea club website (h/t Metro), striker Tammy Abraham explained why he thinks new summer signings are struggling to find their form at the club.
Chelsea were active in the summer transfer market as they brought in a host of players. Out of them, only Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva have had a promising season.
Kai Havertz and Timo Werner have had a torrid few weeks, while Hakim Ziyech’s season has been thwarted by injuries. Edouard Mendy, who had a great start to the campaign, has also come under fire recently.
The debate about their form has raged more in recent weeks as Chelsea have just one win from their last 7 games in all competitions. And, Tammy Abraham believes a lack of time on the training ground is to blame for it.
A lack of chemistry
The 23-year-old Englishman says that he is still gelling with the new players and that the players are getting to know each other better as they spend more time together.
“We have hardly had any time to train together and to work out how each other play. Every game we play, we’re learning new things about each other.”
Abraham has had to compete for the starting spot this season. New signing Timo Werner, despite experiencing a slump in his goal-scoring form, has started 16 out of 17 games for the team.
On top of that, veteran striker Olivier Giroud has hit form in the past few weeks. This has impacted Abraham’s playing time to some extent, who has started just 8 out of Chelsea’s 17 league games so far. (h/t Transfermarkt)
