Chelsea vs Fulham game postponed by 24 hours
A report by Football.london mentions that the Premier League match between Chelsea and Fulham is now postponed by a day.
The match was originally scheduled to be played on Friday night. But now, Chelsea will take the short trip to Craven Cottage one day later on Saturday.
This match is rescheduled as a result of Fulham playing against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday. Fulham’s game against Spurs was postponed last month due to a Covid-19 outbreak.
The opportunity to reschedule arose when Aston Villa closed down their training ground to a Covid-19 crisis at their club. This left Tottenham free to play their pending game against the Cottagers this week. (h/t football.london)
A bittersweet situation?
Frank Lampard’s side now have an extra day to prepare for the London derby. However, this takes away the one day they would have had to rest before their next Premier League game.
The Blues play Leicester City on Tuesday next week, which will leave them with just 3 days to prepare for that match against the Foxes.
Chelsea, who now have 5 days to prepare for the match against Fulham, also had a whole week to prepare for their FA Cup Round 3 fixture this weekend.
Disregarding the gap between the two sides in the English football pyramid, Chelsea were dominant against Morecambe and looked re-energized in their 4-0 win.
Lampard would hope his team can replicate this form in the league as well. Chelsea have fallen to 9th in the league table after winning just 1 out of their last 5 Premier League matches.
However, the gap from the summit is still not within the unreachable territory. Chelsea trail leaders Liverpool by 7 points while being just 3 points away from the Champions League spot.
