According to the Daily Mail, newly-appointed Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has hit the ground running as he is already making changes in the player’s training regime.
The German tactician was brought into the club as a replacement for the axed Frank Lampard earlier this week. In his first game in charge, Chelsea were held to a goalless draw by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Despite having had very little time with the team prior to the game, Tuchel had managed to communicate and implement several of his ideas onto the field against Wolves. And, the manager is not wasting any time in stamping his authority in training as well.
Throughout his career, the 47-year-old has been known to bring in innovative training drills into play. During his time at Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel made defenders play with tennis balls in their hands to stop them from pulling shirts.
And it seems like the German has brought in another innovative regime for the Chelsea players. Tuchel has introduced new drills in training for the stars that sees them practice with smaller footballs. This is being done in view to help the squad improve their ball control and ball retention skills.
It is not new for a manager to come in and change the usual order of things at a club. And Tuchel has been no different, implementing new and innovative methods to help turn around things at Chelsea.
Given how he likes his teams to dominate possession, ball control and retention becomes an important aspect. It will be interesting to see if the German’s methods reap the desired rewards. But, as things stand, one thing is clear – Tuchel is wasting absolutely no time to make his mark at Chelsea.
