“Give him a chance” – Arteta openly extends his support to a struggling Lampard

Mikel Arteta throws in his weight behind Chelsea boss Frank Lampard

According to the Standard, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has urged Chelsea to be patient with under-fire manager Frank Lampard.

A poor run of just two wins in eight games has Lampard’s position at the club being called into question. The Blues have endured a torrid few months that saw them fall from the Premier League summit.

With key games including the Champions League ties set to come in the next month, the Blues will need to step up their game to have any chance of success this season.

Mikel Arteta has urged Chelsea to give Frank Lampard time

Arteta is familiar with Lampard and believes Chelsea should give him the time he needs to set things right.

“I have known Frank for a few years and I spent some time with him and I would like the club to support him and give him a chance.”

The Gunners boss pointed out that everything needs time. Unfortunately, it was at a premium in what was a tumultuous 2020 in all walks of life. As someone who saw Arsenal struggle early in the season, the Spaniard knows what he is talking about.

“You need time, and something we have not had in this calendar year is time to work on anything.”

Arteta was given time by the Arsenal heirarchy

A familiar feeling

Arteta admitted that he was backed by the Arsenal hierarchy in those dark days. The Gunners have since picked up their form and are now rising up the table.

He does however believe that the work done in the background can only be justified if the right results are obtained on the pitch. A little patience could pay off long term and Lampard could do with it right now.

Will Roman Abramovich give Lampard the time to get things right?

As a Chelsea legend, it is fair to say that Lampard has been given more time than any other manager would have. As things stand, he has three games to turn around our season. Given our opponents, it should be a fairly straightforward effort. It promises to be an interesting few weeks at Chelsea.

Arteta is right in his assessment that patience is needed. The likes of Sir Alex Ferguson or even Jurgen Klopp may not have achieved what they did had their clubs demanded instant results.

Hopefully, Lampard too will go on to rebuild his reputation as one of the best young managers in the game.
