Lucas Piazon leaves Chelsea to join Portuguese side S.C. Braga

A report by Sky Sports confirms that Lucas Piazon has left Chelsea to join Liga NOS side, S.C. Braga, on a permanent basis. He has signed a four-year deal with the Portuguese side.

Piazon leaves the Blues as their longest-serving player in their current squad. He was signed by Carlo Ancelotti in 2011 but by the time he arrived, Andre Villas-Boas was in charge of the club.

Piazon managed just 3 appearances for Chelsea’s senior side in his decade-long stay. His only Premier League appearance came in an 8-0 rout of Aston Villa back in 2012, where he came on a substitute to miss a penalty.

Apart from that, he made 2 appearances in the League cup in the 2012/13 season. The Brazilian’s time at Chelsea is marked by loan spells at 7 different clubs in 6 different countries.

Good riddance?

Piazon was first loaned out to Malaga in Spain, then to Vitesse in Netherlands before going to Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt. After that, he returned to England to play on loan with first Reading, then Fulham.

That was followed by a loan spell to Chievo Verona in Italy, before his final loan spell at Portuguese club Rio Ave. He is now finally off Chelsea’s books on a permanent basis with his move to Braga.

Piazon is still just 26 years old, which is incredible considering how far back the Blues signed him. He still has a few years left in him to fulfil the potential which Chelsea saw in him in 2011.

More Chelsea News:

As for Chelsea, this move is not a blow, at least on paper. The club has an array of attacking options and Piazon would have found it almost impossible to break into the squad.
