Jamie Vardy tipped to feature for Leicester City against Chelsea despite hip injury
Speaking after his side’s 2-0 league win on Saturday (h/t LeicestershireLive), Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers stated that he ‘hopes’ Jamie Vardy would start against Chelsea on Tuesday despite an injury.
Vardy was substituted due to an injury against Southampton in their 2-0 win last weekend. He made way in the first minute of added time due to a hip injury that he has been carrying for a while.
The 34-year-old striker has had the issue for a few years now. The Foxes have taken care of it by managing his gametime and giving him days off the training ground whenever they can. (h/t LeicestershireLive)
He has featured twice for the club in the space of 4 days just once the season. He is goalless in his last 4 league games, but his threat in front of goal needs no introduction.
A threat up front
And now, Rodgers says he is hopeful that the Englishman can start against Leicester City. He also revealed that it was, in fact, an injury that made him take off Vardy against the Saints.
“We hope so. We thought we would take him off towards the end and give him some sort of breather. It was that impingement he gets on his hip.”
Dennis Praet is currently the only Leicester player ruled out of injury ahead of their match against Chelsea on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ricardo Pereira was included in their squad for the first time in 10 months against Southampton.
The Blues got a much-needed win against Fulham on Saturday. The 1-0 victory saw Frank Lampard’s side rise two places to 7th in the league table.
