Gary Lineker praises Chelsea star Mason Mount after Fulham match-winner

Mason Mount was the hero on the night as Chelsea got back to winning ways in the Premier League against Fulham.

The Blues struggled to breakdown a well-organized Cottagers defence thanks to poor finishing and dogged defending. In all fairness, the 10-man Fulham side put up a good account of themselves.

Rather than our expensive summer recruits, it is an academy star who ended up making the difference.

Gary Lineker, himself a match-winner in his playing days was quick to praise the midfielder for his performance. He also labelled the 22-year-old Chelsea’s best player on Twitter.

Mount has now scored twice in two games. He opened the scoring against Morecambe in the FA Cup before yesterday’s winner.

A player with excellent technical skills, Mount backs it up with his athleticism and engine. The fact that he is taking the centre stage is a testament to his development.

Frank Lampard recently urged the youngster to add more goals to his tally. It would appear the English international has hit the ground running.

Lampard appears to have great faith in his young protege, though. Not many players become a regular for Chelsea by the age of 22. He continues to prove why.

The likes of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and even Hakim Ziyech are still finding their feet. Until then it is up to those already at the club to pull their weight.

Mount only made it to the Chelsea first-team last season. From the looks of it, he is set to keep his spot for years to come.

Having come into the game after a torrid run of results, it was imperative that we got all three points last night. Thanks to Mount, Lampard can now breathe easy.
