According to the Mirror, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has issued a defiant statement to his doubters, insisting that he is well-equipped to deal with the pressure that comes with the job.
A run of five defeats in eight Premier League games has brought Lampard under intense scrutiny.
Given how big he went in the transfer market, adding some quality stars to his roster, questions were bound to be raised if the team went through a rocky spell.
There have been serious speculations over his job over the past week or so. However, speaking ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup tie against Luton Town, the Blues’ boss insisted that he can cope with the pressure and get things right.
“I’m a fighter first and foremost. It’s how I managed to make a career out of the game as a player. I got back in with a desire to be successful. You have to go into it wanting to handle pressure, wanting to handle success by being humble about it at all times.
“I know that some of the talk is nonsense, it’s only the action that matters so all that I will control is what’s in front of me.”
Lampard has come out fighting with his words. But the same fight needs to be shown by his players on the pitch if he is to survive the axe. It has been claimed that the club legend has three games to save his job.
The turnaround needs to start swiftly, and the game against Luton Town on Sunday offers an ideal chance for Lampard & co. to bounce back.
