As reported by the Mirror, Sunday’s Premier League fixture between Chelsea and Man City is expected to as per schedule after there were no new positive cases of Covid-19.
Manchester City saw their game against Everton last Monday postponed after a number of people in the squad returned positive results ahead of the clash at Goodison Park.
Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus had already tested positive for coronavirus on Christmas Day along with two staff members. More positive cases were reported on Monday. This led to the game being called off and their training ground being shut down. (h/t Football.london)
The entire squad and staff were tested on Tuesday and after the results came back, with no new positive cases. The training ground was reopened on Wednesday, following a 48-hour deep-clean of all the facilities.
“The full Covid-19 bubble underwent testing yesterday, and results have so far revealed no new positive cases. Safety remains our number one priority and the club will continue to proceed with great caution.”
Manchester City also confirmed that there will be another round of testing done in the coming days to ensure maximum safety.
“The bubble will undergo further testing in the coming days, the results of which will inform and dictate the next steps.”
Following the postponement of Man City’s clash against Everton, Tottenham vs Fulham was also called off on Wednesday due to a surge in positive cases.
However, the City players are back in training and there are no new positive cases. So the fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday should go ahead as planned.
