“Something could happen”: Reliable journalist provides an update on Lampard’s future at Chelsea

Chelsea board furious with manager Frank Lampard; no decision made on future yet

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast (h/t Express), reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has issued an update on the future of Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

The Blues’ boss has come under intense scrutiny over the past few weeks after a disappointing run of results in the Premier League. And the pressure on him has only increased since Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

The manner of the defeat was disappointing to say the least as the players hardly showed any sort of fight against the Foxes. Ever since the game ended, speculations over Lampard’s future have been doing the rounds heavily.

And, Romano, who is usually quite accurate with news on player transfers, has brought us an update on the future of the Chelsea boss. The Italian journalist has claimed that the Chelsea board is furious with Lampard after the recent result, but are yet to make a decision.

“No decision has been made on Frank Lampard yet, but the board are furious with what is going on. And something could happen in the coming hours.”

With rumours of a sack doing the rounds, a number of names have been linked as replacements for Lampard.

Former PSG boss Thomas Tuchel, Massimiliano Allegri, who has been without a job after leaving Juventus in 2019 and Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl are some of the names being mentioned.

The defeat to Leicester meant Chelsea have now lost five of our last eight Premier League games. Currently eighth in the table, we are five points below Liverpool in fourth.

Given the way Lampard was backed in the transfer market, it is natural that questions are being raised over his suitability. More so, considering that he hasn’t been able to get the best out of new signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

It remains to be seen if he is given time to get things back on track or the club decides to swing the axe.
