Former star claims this PL English ace would have been fantastic for Chelsea

Craig Burley claims Jack Grealish would have been a better signing for Chelsea than Kai Havertz

Former Chelsea star Craig Burley lavished praise on Jack Grealish and claimed Chelsea should have targeted the Englishman.

Grealish saved Aston Villa from relegation last year. However, this season has been a different story for the Villans.

Dean Smith’s side lie fifth in the Premier League but have two games in hand on leaders Liverpool. They also hammered the defending champions 7-2 at Villa Park, with Grealish playing a starring role.

The 25-year-old has five goals and six assists in the league this season and is improving with each game under his belt.

Burley was speaking on ESPN FC and suggested that the Blues missed out on a quality player (h/t The Sun):

“I wouldn’t have been against signing Jack Grealish. He’s been superb again, a fantastic season.”

Burley claimed that Grealish has everything in the bag while Kai Havertz looks lost and Timo Werner is lacking confidence.

Timo Werner has struggled to make an impact on the left wing

Werner and Havertz were two of our big signings before the start of this season. However, the pair hasn’t clicked regularly under Frank Lampard.

More options from Grealish

The Englishman can play as a winger or in the midfield and has been in incredible form for Villa.

Burley added that Grealish could do a lot more for the Blues:

“Timo Werner is a different kettle of fish because Jack Grealish is a midfielder who can do a bit of everything. Werner is an attacker, and in essence so is Havertz – although he can play a little deeper.

“Grealish would have given them more options than Havertz.”

Havertz came with a lot of hype from Bayer Leverkusen but the 21-year-old is yet to find his feet under Lampard.

The German has three assists in the Premier League and three in the Champions League this season. However, he has played 19 games in both the competitions combined.

Havertz needs to come up with better numbers but time must also be handed to him as he needs to adjust to a new team and country.
