Tammy Abraham breaks silence after match-winning brace against West Ham United
Speaking in an interview after our win on Monday (h/t Football.london), English striker Tammy Abraham spoke about his brace and the team’s performance in the 3-0 derby win against West Ham.
Chelsea faced West Ham United on Monday night after losing back-to-back Premier League games which saw them drop to 8th in the table.
Brazilian defender Thiago Silva opened the scoring for the Blues in the 10th minute. A late brace by Abraham then sealed the 3-0 win on the night for Frank Lampard’s side.
Olivier Giroud had started in Chelsea’s last three Premier League games after his 4 goals against Sevilla in the Champions League left Lampard with little choice.
However, the 23-year-old striker was given the nod for this game ahead of the Frenchman.
Speaking after his derby day heroics, Abraham expressed his happiness over the team’s performance after a disappointing week in the league.
“That was much more like it. The boys needed to put on a performance today and that’s what we’ve done.”
Abraham said that his job his to score goals for his team. Despite his noteworthy individual exploits, he was eager to deflect the praise onto his teammates.
“I give credit to my teammates, they created a lot of chances today and we defended well as a team.”
The Chelsea academy graduate said that he will get confidence from his brace, as all strikers do after scoring goals. He highlighted that Chelsea are a good team who just lost concentration in their last two league games.
“I don’t think the losses knocked our confidence, we know we’re a good side and we just lost our concentration.”

Abraham also explained that his side needed to grind against West Ham to get the result, and said that top sides need to keep winning despite having some bad days at the office. (h/t football.london)
The brace means that the English forward now has 5 goals in the league this season. Despite facing competition from Timo Werner and Giroud, Abraham has seen regular playing time.
Abraham has appeared in all but one of the Blues’ league games this season, and will be looking to get some minutes when Chelsea face Arsenal on the weekend.
