Frank Lampard sends a message to struggling Chelsea star Timo Werner
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has to come up with a solution to get Timo Werner firing once again.
The Blues star has now gone 10 games without a goal and is clearly struggling on the pitch. Starting on the left wing once again, he was dragged off at half-time against Arsenal in yet another anonymous display.
While the player’s quality is not in doubt, his current form remains a major source of concern.
According to Football.london, Lampard admitted that Werner was not adding much to the Chelsea effort on the pitch.
“Timo wasn’t giving us enough with or without the ball.”
While it may be considered harsh, it is difficult to argue with Lampard’s assessment.
Despite his recent lack of goals, Werner still continued to make excellent runs and was lively in his movement off the ball. Unfortunately, it was not the case yesterday at the Emirates.
Speaking after the game, Lampard refused to confirm if Werner was fatigued. His comments would however indicate that taking off the German was due to his performance related issues.
“I felt I had to make the subs in those two areas to inject energy.”
A call for patience but is time running out?
Lampard also called for patience regarding Werner. Having come to a new league in a new country, the 24-year-old needs to get settled in before firing on all cylinders. However, given the massive investment in him, the pressure is only bound to rise.
The Blues manager also confirmed that he will have a word with the German. A striker is judged by the goals he scores and in that aspect, Werner has come short of late.

Werner for his part can have no complaints about being taken off. The best way he can silence his detractors is on the pitch, and he should strive to do just that.
The Blues take on an in-form Aston Villa next. Whether Werner will continue to start remains to be seen.
