According to the BBC, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes fans should not be stopped from coming to Stamford Bridge as London falls to tier three.
The English capital was initially placed in tier two by the government last month. This permitted the club to welcome 2000 fans to the Bridge.
However, with the city now demoted to the third tier, matches are supposed to be held behind closed doors.
Lampard expressed his disappointment at the declaration and called for a level playing field. Fans were in attendance for our 3-1 win against Leeds United earlier this month.
It was the first time they were in attendence at the Bridge since our win over Everton in March.
“I’m slightly disappointed, even though we have had fans back in tier two, it should have been a level playing field.”
Lampard also brought to notice the impact fans have on the field. Even in limited quantity, their presence is a game-changer, especially after playing the majority of the year behind closed doors.
The Blues boss insists that he is not telling the government what to do. He however expressed the belief that these rules are being made as we go along, insisting clubs have shown they can police 2000 fans efficiently.
Chelsea next face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday. Wolves are also in tier three, meaning fans will be absent from the Molineux.
The Blues’ next home game will see us face West Ham United on December 21. Given the new circumstances, the Bridge will be sans supporters once again.
