Frank Lampard reveals why he gave two days off to Chelsea players before West Ham encounter
Speaking in his pre-match interview (h/t football.london), Frank Lampard said he gave his players two days off after the defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers to “reboot” before their next league game.
Chelsea lost back-to-back games for the first time this season as they fell to Everton and Wolves within the space of a few days.
After the 2-1 defeat in injury time to Wolves on Tuesday night, Chelsea players were given an off for the next two days.
The Blues players spent Wednesday and Thursday at their houses before meeting up at Cobham on Friday. That training session also featured Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who trained for the first time since their injuries.
Speaking on the reason he gave his players some time off, Lampard said that it was because the Chelsea players looked tired after the Wolves defeat.
“We gave the players a couple of days off. They needed it. I thought they looked a bit tired at the end of the Wolves game.”
He also said that the couple of days off from training gave everyone at the club a chance to reboot.
“Those 2 days gave us all a little bit of a chance, especially after a defeat, to have a bit of a reboot.”
The English manager also revealed that he got involved with a bit of online Christmas shopping on Thursday.
It seems like a good decision by Lampard to give some rest to the players. The fixtures have come hard and fast in the past few weeks and the players have borne the brunt of it more than anyone else.
