A View From The Bridge

“An amazing player” – Chelsea new boy reveals which teammate has impressed the most

Kai Havertz lavishes praise on Chelsea star Olivier Giroud

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Chelsea new-boy Kai Havertz has been left impressed by veteran striker Olivier Giroud.

Having signed from Bayer Leverkusen for big money, Havertz was the crown jewel of our summer recruitment. While he is yet to hit his best, there have been positive signs.

Coming to Chelsea was always going to be a step up from Leverkusen and Havertz would be exposed to some of the world’s best players at the Bridge. It is however Giroud who has left a profound mark on him.

The French veteran started the campaign as arguably our third-choice striker behind Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham. Currently experiencing a rich vein of form, his importance to our team is clear.

“The one who really impressed me is Olivier Giroud.”

Havertz has been pleasantly surprised by the Frenchman. At 34, Giroud is 13 years the German’s senior but remains a potent forward to this day.

“I wouldn’t have expected that before. He’s an amazing player. Playing with him as a striker is just fun.”

Olivier Giroud is a dependable player for Chelsea

Havertz also remarked at Giroud’s remarkable tally of goals for the France national team. He currently has 44 goals in 105 appearances and is just seven off Thierry Henry as the country’s top-scorer.

“It is not for nothing that he holds records in the French national team.”

Giroud also garnered praise for his nature off the field. Often overlooked by his detractors, the striker is someone who does his taking on the pitch.

In Havertz, it looks like he has another admirer.

Giroud is a brutally efficient striker who can be relied upon when needed. Moreover, he is someone who constantly overcomes challenges successfully.

The 34-year-old is the right role model for the young talents at the club to have. It is good to see Havertz sit up and take notice.
