Juventus interested in signing Chelsea wonderkid Billy Gilmour

A report by Italian outlet CalcioMercato (h/t Mirror) claims that Serie A giants Juventus are interested in signing Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour.

The report also outlines the fact that Juventus have been keeping a tab on Billy Gilmour since last season when the youngster broke into the Chelsea first-team.

The 19-year-old Scottish midfielder’s progress at the club was temporarily halted by an injury, which he has recently recovered from.

Gilmour is expected to be integrated into the Chelsea first-team soon as he has featured for Chelsea and Scotland’s youth teams in recent weeks.

His contract runs until the summer of 2023, but he has still been the subject of interest of Juventus recently. (h/t Mirror)

However, the report states that intermediaries are already working to make a move happen for Billy Gilmour to Juventus in the January transfer window.

The Scotsman made his first appearance for Chelsea’s senior team this year after he came on for the last 5 minutes of the 4-0 win vs Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

However, Gilmour would not expect his path back into the Chelsea team to be as easy as it was last season, where he made 11 appearances for the Blues.

Frank Lampard signed a flurry of players in the summer transfer window. Chelsea also already have a stable midfield trio of N’golo Kante, Jorginho, and Matteo Kovacic.

However, the youngster can still hope to make cameo appearances and rare starts as Chelsea face a congested fixture list.

Losing a young and talented midfielder like Billy Gilmour makes no sense for Chelsea, but the move could be beneficial if it’s a loan deal. The experience that he could garner at another top club like Juventus would be immense.
