Kai Havertz ‘regretting’ a move to Chelsea amidst Premier League troubles

Writing for SportBILD (h/t Express), German journalist Raymond Hinko mentions that Kai Havertz would be regretting a move to join Chelsea in the summer.

Havertz moved to West London in September 2020 from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen. The 21-year-old joined with the fans and the club having high expectations from him.

After all, he managed 29 goals and 10 assists in the last two Bundesliga seasons combined. However, his time at Chelsea has been marred by inconsistency. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The German attacking midfielder has just 1 goal in 14 league appearances so far for Chelsea. Frank Lampard has shuffled him across the midfield to find his best position, but Havertz is yet to deliver a string of good games.

Mentioning about his failure to adjust to the league, Hinko writes that Havertz would be cursing himself for joining Chelsea for ‘money‘.

“Kai Havertz, even if he doesn’t say it out loud, will have already cursed a 100 times that he moved from Leverkusen to the midfield bores of Chelsea, following the lure of money.”

Hinko then goes on to provide a grim picture of the German missing out on the festive season with his family to warm the bench at Chelsea in a humiliating defeat to a struggling Arsenal side.

He described Havertz’s substitution in that match for the last 15 minutes as a kind of “mercy killing”, calling it the “maximum punishment” for a great talent like him. (h/t Express)

He further writes that the midfielder would be regretting his decision to not join Bayern Munich.

“Havertz will have kicked himself often enough for not returning Bayern’s interest.”

More Chelsea News:

In all honesty, Havertz does not look like he’s in the best form. Apart from a hat-trick against Barnsley, he has scored just once in 19 games for the club.

But, it is important to understand that he is just 21 years old and has moved to a foreign league for the first time.
