Chelsea icon Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink offers Tammy Abraham advice and asks him to ‘step up’ this season
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.london), Chelsea icon and ex-striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has asked youngster Tammy Abraham to ‘step up’ this season, and offered him advice.
Tammy Abraham had a breakthrough season at Chelsea last year when he ended the campaign with 18 goals, with 15 of them coming in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old has been favoured by Frank Lampard this season over Olivier Giroud, and has netted 4 times in 15 appearances in all competitions for the Blues.
Abraham was taken off in the 79th minute against Tottenham Hotspur in the 0-0 draw on Sunday as he failed to find the back of the net despite receiving decent service from Reece James down the right-hand side. (h/t football.London)
Referring to one particular moment in the match where Abraham did not make the most of a brilliant Reece James cross, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink said that the striker needs to up his game.
“For me, Abraham has to do better. James can’t do any better for him, he’s put that ball in the right space. Put your head against it, it doesn’t matter who you are, these are brilliant crosses. For a striker, this is what you want, at this moment. These are the moments that are counting for Abraham, where he needs to step up.
Hasselbaink also questioned Tammy Abraham’s decision to hit the floor instead of meeting the cross and assessed the youngster’s 2019/20 season.
Hasselbaink, who made 177 appearances and scored 88 goals for Chelsea during his time at Stamford Bridge, advised Abraham to improve his movement and put his ability to use this season.
“Sometimes I wonder if he watches clips of himself after a game because certain times, his movement should be better. His holding up can be a little bit better.”
Tammy Abraham could expect another outing as Chelsea face Spanish side Sevilla this week in the UEFA Champions League. A win for Chelsea would secure our qualification to the knockout stages as group winners.
