Steven Gerrard opens up on Rangers interest in Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour
According to The Metro, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has dismissed reports that the SPL leaders are looking to finalize a loan deal for Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour.
The 19-year-old came through the ranks at Rangers before moving to Chelsea in 2017. Having made his first team bow this year, the youngster has gone from strength to strength.
“I think that’s just people putting two and two together and looking for stories.”
Gilmour only recently returned from a knee injury sustained towards the end of last season. He hardly looked out of place in our midweek draw against Krasnodar in the Chmapions League.
With competition for places at Chelsea high, there has been suggestions that Gilmour be allowed to leave on loan to get more playtime.
One of the team touted as a destination was Rangers. Managed by Gerrard, the Scottish giants are leading the SPL by a whopping 13 points, although Celtic have two games in hand.
While Gerrard acknowledged Gilmour’s ability, he played down talks of a move being in the works.
“He’s a fabulous little player but there has been no contact between the clubs or the managers.”
His comments are in line with what Frank Lampard said earlier this week. The Blues boss too dismised suggestions that the youngster was on his way out.
He believes Gilmour still has much to offer the Chelsea side despite our riches of talents.

The prospect of Gilmour continuing his development under Gerard was intriguing. The debate of who was the better player amongst Gerrard and Lampard is a topic that still rages today.
The prospect of Gilmour learning from both of them would have been an interesting piece of development.
