“They need to wake up” – Lampard sends a stern warning to underperforming star duo

Frank Lampard sends a wake-up message to struggling Chelsea summer signings

Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has sent a wake-up call to his summer signings after the 2-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.

It was the Blues’ second Premier League loss on the spin, seeing us concede space in the title race. Olivier Giroud gave Chelsea the lead but Wolves equalised through Daniel Podence before Pedro Neto won it for them in stoppage time.

The game saw German duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz once again fail to make an impression. The former has now gone eight games without scoring for the Blues while the latter has looked out of sorts.

“Some players are new to this league, they need to wake up to what this is about right now, because games like the last two prove it.”

In a season where no team has yet pulled away, Chelsea are in the thick of what could be a neck-to-neck title race. However, dropping points will not aid our cause.

There is still a lot of games to play and Lampard has stressed on the need to bounce back quickly.

“We have to bounce back; the players have to bounce back.”

Much was expected of Werner and Havertz following their big-money arrival this summer. While they have shown glimpses of their prodigious skill, the jury is still out regarding their consistency.

Chelsea next face West Ham United in the English Premier League. The game will provide both players with another opportunity to put recent performances behind them.

Whether they take it or not remains to be seen.

With games set to come thick and fast during the festive season, Chelsea cannot afford to drop momentum. This heavy run of matches could very well decide where we stand come the end of the season.

It is time that the players start repaying the trust put in them.
